French funkster Onra strikes again.
There’s plenty of soulful talent emerging from The UK these days. One of them is 18 year old Rainy Milo from south-east London. Her song “Bout You” was originally featured on her debut mixtape, “Limey”, in late 2012. Now a remix from Detroit-bred producer Tall Black Guy has surfaced in anticipation of her debut album, “This Thing Of Ours”, slated for release on March 3rd.
Tall Black Guy takes an interesting approach, giving the already laid back track a warmer and more dreamy feel than the slightly heavier and jazzier original. Both versions are pretty amazing though and I can’t figure out which one I like best. Stream both below to see which one you prefer.
Ikebe Shakedown from Brooklyn, New York is one of the top afro-funk orchestras out there. They will be releasing their sophomore album, “Stone By Stone”, on Ubiquty Records some time in the near future. They first appeared on the scene in 2009 with the EP “Hard Steppin” and their self titled debut album was released in 2011. The lead off track from their new album is “The Offering” and if it’s anything to go by, we’re in for quite a treat. “The Offering” is a blistering afro-funk workout with thick bass, scratchy guitars, blaring horns and all. A jam that takes no prisoners.
Dontae Winslow is a composer, songwriter, producer and classically trained trumpeter who, among other things, has toured and played with Lauryn Hill, D’Angelo and Justin Timberlake This week he released a solo album called “Enter The Dynasty”. The first song off of that album was “Summer Cookout” , a collaboration with Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson of The Roots and jazz trumpeter Roy Hargrove. True to it’s title, this track will leave you longing for the coming of summer. Check out the rest of the album here.
